Today, I taught
my last class in the Basic English course, and I could see that sometimes as
teachers you have many problems at home, but you need to leave them there, and you must be ok order to give the class. First
of all, I was really worried, I had not slept so well because my mom was at the
hospital since Sunday, so as you know, I needed to be with her there, and
believe it or not I prepared the lesson plan there.
There is a quote
which says: “If plan A does not function, there are more letters in the
alphabet to try more times”. Sometimes, technology does not help you, and it is
important that if you will use an LCD projector or another machine, you should
have another lesson plan in which you do not need to use them. It was my case;
I prepared a video because I needed to teach the Simple Present Tense. At the
very beginning the LCD projector did not function, so I was ready to use my
plan “B” or “C” because I had three different lesson plans. I told that to the
teacher; however, he told me that he could fix the problem, and also he told me
that I shouldn’t be nervous. Well, ten minutes later, we could fix the problem,
and of course, I started to teach the class.
I started with
the warm up, and with that activity I taught vocabulary (verbs) and I developed
the activity “Guess what I mime”.
After that, I
taught the Grammar part because the video was like an introduction. Then I
asked students to fill in the blanks some sentences. It was nice because I
could see that they had understood the topic, and of course, it was a
satisfaction to me when all of them wanted to participate to give the answer to
that exercise. At the end of the class, I made the “Hot Potato”. The one who
had the “potato” came to the front and changed the verb to the correct form according
to the rules I had explained before.
To conclude, what
I can say is that I had a great experience teaching in that level because those
have been my first experiences teaching a group. At the end of the class I
thanked my students and the teacher because they helped a lot, also I brought
some candies. Now, I just can say that I’m ready to teach another class!!!
Hi Isabel, as you said sometimes we face some personal problems i hope your mom is better. and i like your quote that is something important to have an extra plan in case you fail the first one. but finally you finished well, and now you are free to see what you did good and bad. congratulate Isa.
ResponderEliminarahhhh Baby!!!! now you are on the way!!! I`m so proud of you Isabel, I know all the things that you have to face at home, and it doesn´t matter how hard they are...as you said...we have to give our best face in front of the Ss, I personally believe that teaching is a great opportunity for us to forget our personal problems for a while, and live in a different dimension doing what we really love to do TEACHING!!!! ;)
ResponderEliminarHi Isabel! It's nice to know you thought of other alternatives in case that what you had planned did not work. I can see you're engaged, as it must be, with your job right now. Showing videos is cool since you stimulate all the class; the environment changes for for the good of the students. It is more attractive. You did a good job Isa. Keep it up!
ResponderEliminarWow Isa!
ResponderEliminarI really hope your mom be healthier now!
You definitely faced two big mishaps which made you feel nervous as anyone in your case, but let me congratulate you because you are very brave, responsible and smart inasmuch as you were able to cope and do a great job despite of the drawbacks. It is great to know that now you feel ready and willing to teach another class. Congrats once again!
Hello Isa!! I am proud of you! because your were there spite of your problems!! I hope your mom is better now. I liked the quote you posted, it is very necesary to have an extra plan all the time, we do not know what can happen. You are a very courageous and responsible person, keep working hard!
ResponderEliminarHello Isabel...
ResponderEliminarYou keep surprising me time after time.
Despite all the difficulty you had you planned not only 1 lesson but 3. That says a lot about your commitment as a student and as a teacher.
As teachers, our biggest reward is to see our students practicing and using the structures we taught to them. Those feelings are priceless.
Nice work Isa. Hope your mom is ok!!!
Blessings
